Wakil Ketua Komisi III DPR RI, Ahmad Sahroni, has responded casually to the emergence of a presidential letter issue regarding the replacement of National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo. Sahroni assessed that the rumour is normal considering Sigit’s term of office has entered its fifth year.

Despite the strengthening rumours, Sahroni believes President Prabowo Subianto will retain General Listyo Sigit Prabowo in his position. He considers Sigit to have an excellent track record of performance and professionalism in leading the Indonesian National Police.

‘The National Police Chief is good. It’s just that the issue of replacing the National Police Chief is blowing hard. It’s normal, he has been in office for five years. Because it’s been a long time, there are people who don’t like it, so we should just understand,’ Sahroni said at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday.

Sahroni expressed high appreciation for Sigit’s hard work in maintaining national stability and security. According to him, managing a law enforcement institution that serves approximately 280 million Indonesians is a major challenge that Sigit has handled well.

Regarding dynamics or shortcomings in the field involving individual police officers, Sahroni considers this to be a human dynamic within a large organisation. He asked the public to remain objective in viewing the institution’s overall achievements.

‘But this is the aspect of professionalism carried out by Mr Sigit. He works extraordinarily, you know. Security-wise, even if there are shortcomings, it’s normal. A leader without shortcomings is God,’ he continued.

The NasDem Party politician stressed the importance of distinguishing between the personal and institutional performance of the National Police Chief and the actions of certain rogue individuals. Based on considerations of professionalism, Sahroni is optimistic that President Prabowo still places full trust in Sigit.

‘But there are rogue individuals acting in the name of the institution, that’s common. But I am sure the President will retain Mr Sigit because his performance is quite good,’ Sahroni concluded.
