DPR's Saan on Special Body Proposal in Asset Forfeiture Bill: All Will Be Considered

Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR), Saan Mustopa, has responded to proposals for the establishment of a special asset management body during the deliberation of the Asset Forfeiture Bill. Saan stated that the DPR will consider all suggestions.

“We will see in the development process, regarding various proposals including asset management bodies and others, we will see in the development of the discussion. Whether it is necessary or not, we will see later,” Saan said at the Parliament Complex in Senayan, Jakarta, Tuesday (14/7/2026).

When asked about the proposal for a special team to adjudicate related cases, Saan said all input would be taken into consideration. “Including everything. All input will certainly be considered and used as material when discussing the Asset Forfeiture Bill,” he stated.

Saan stressed that the DPR is still opening the widest possible space for the public to provide input on the Asset Forfeiture Bill. According to him, public participation is an important part of drafting the legislation. “We are still listening to all input, we will open the widest possible space for public participation regarding the discussion of the Asset Forfeiture Bill. So we are opening the widest possible space,” he said.

Previously, Chairman of Commission III of the DPR, Habiburokhman, also confirmed that his party had received a lot of input regarding a special body to manage criminal assets. He said many parties have proposed that assets should not be managed by law enforcement officers. “There is a lot of input regarding the need for a special institution to handle the management of seized assets. Because if it is only the Attorney General’s Office, their job is to investigate, prosecute, and so on. They do not have the task of managing these assets,” he explained.
