TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR) Sufmi Dasco Ahmad claimed that he has not studied the legal considerations in the Constitutional Court decision regarding the high school diploma of Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka. During the election result dispute (PHPU) hearing on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, the constitutional justices stated that they found no convincing evidence regarding the existence of Gibran’s high school-equivalent diploma from his overseas studies.
However, the constitutional justices ruled that the lawsuit filed by former Deputy Minister of Law and Human Rights Denny Indrayana and his co-petitioners was inadmissible because the petitioners lacked legal standing to file the case. The Constitutional Court also ruled that Gibran could not be disqualified as Vice President as requested by the plaintiffs.
Several constitutional law experts believe that the Constitutional Court’s decision passes the hot potato to the DPR. However, Dasco maintained that he has not reviewed the ruling. “I have only heard the verdict rendered by the Constitutional Court; beyond that, I have not studied it,” Dasco said at the DPR building in Jakarta on Wednesday, October 7, 2026.
Nevertheless, the Executive Chair of the ruling party Gerindra stated that the Constitutional Court’s decision must be respected. “We all heard that the lawsuit was declared inadmissible. Therefore, we must respect the Constitutional Court’s decision,” Dasco said.
In the legal considerations of the decision, the constitutional justices stated that revoking elected public offices falls outside their constitutional authority. The justices instead deferred the assessment of facts presented during the hearings to the institutions authorized to evaluate the validity and candidate requirements under the 1945 Constitution.
Gibran’s volunteer group, which served as a related party in the trial, stated that the Constitutional Court’s decision automatically invalidates the plaintiffs’ allegations, including claims of administrative flaws in Gibran’s vice-presidential nomination in the 2024 General Election.
“The truth shows that Mas Gibran is the future leader of Indonesia,” said Chair of the Militan Gibran 08 Nusantara, Andi Azwan, at the Constitutional Court building on Tuesday night, October 6, 2026.
