Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Chair of the DPR RI’s Commission X, Esti Wijayanti, has requested that a state university (PTN) lecturer with the initials CD, who is said to be an advisor to the Yayasan Daycare Little Aresha in Yogyakarta—the daycare at the centre of a child abuse case—be suspended from her campus. According to her, this suspension is a precautionary measure if the individual is proven to be involved in the child abuse case, as there will be a legal process to follow. Additionally, she mentioned that a judge is also listed in the daycare’s organisational structure. “It would be better if she is suspended as soon as possible if she is indeed a suspect, but of course, there is a legal process,” said Esti Wijayanti in Jakarta on Thursday. She assessed that educators or figures involved in child abuse cases should receive additional punishments. “The sanctions against educators or influential figures could be three times that given to the general public who do not understand,” she said. She emphasised that the law must not consider a person’s social status or position. Especially a lecturer and law enforcement apparatus, she said, should better understand the rules. “Precisely because she is a lecturer, if she is indeed involved, she must take greater responsibility than others because academics should understand more,” she stated. According to her, the handling of the Daycare Little Aresha abuse case must not stop at the legal process alone but must also ensure comprehensive recovery for the victims. “This case is not just about heavily punishing the perpetrators, but also about how the state provides assistance to the affected children,” she said.
