Commission B member of the DPRD DKI Jakarta, Ade Suherman, has urged the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government to prioritise strengthening waste management infrastructure in the discussion of the 2026 Revised Budget. One key aim is to reduce dependency on the Bantargebang Integrated Waste Treatment Facility (TPST Bantargebang) to address the problem and manage waste from Jakarta. According to him, the success of various waste regulations is highly dependent on the readiness of facilities and infrastructure on the ground. Ade stated that Jakarta actually has a strong legal foundation, ranging from Regional Regulation Number 3 of 2013, updated through Regional Regulation Number 4 of 2019, to various gubernatorial regulations on waste sorting at source. The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is also continuously strengthening the Movement for Sorting and Processing Waste from Source. However, he noted, regulations will not run effectively without adequate infrastructure support. ‘Education is important, but infrastructure is the main prerequisite for rules to run effectively,’ Ade said in a statement on Tuesday (30/6). He requested that the 2026 Revised Budget provide a larger allocation to strengthen the waste management system. The budget would be used, among other things, to build and develop Reduce, Reuse, Recycle Waste Processing Sites (TPS 3R), expand the network of waste banks, provide sorting facilities in residential areas, and modernise transport fleets and waste processing facilities. According to Ade, investment in the waste sector is not only about maintaining Jakarta’s cleanliness but also has a direct impact on public health, environmental sustainability, and regional financial management efficiency. He also reminded the administration of the importance of maintaining consistency in the waste management system after residents sort their waste at home. ‘Do not let waste that has been sorted get mixed again during transport,’ he said. Therefore, Ade asked the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government to ensure the entire waste management chain runs in an integrated manner, from sorting at the household level, transportation, to final processing. He believes that strengthening infrastructure will also accelerate the reduction of Jakarta’s dependence on TPST Bantargebang through increased waste processing at source and the application of more modern and environmentally friendly technology. ‘The regulations are already in place. Now is the time to strengthen the budget and infrastructure,’ he asserted. Ade hopes the discussion of the 2026 Revised Budget will be a momentum for the DPRD and the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government to increase investment in the environmental sector so that waste management in Jakarta can be more modern, sustainable, and provide real benefits to the community.
