DPRD Supports TransJakarta Managing Thousand Islands Transport, Highlights Tariffs and Fleet
Chairman of Commission B of the Jakarta DPRD, Nova Harivan Paloh, supports the plan to transfer transport management to the Thousand Islands from the Transportation Agency to TransJakarta. He requested that the plan be studied specifically.
“I appreciate the governor’s step regarding the future centralisation through a regional-owned enterprise, but of course it requires a special study,” Nova told reporters on Tuesday (11/8/2026).
Nova asked the Jakarta Provincial Government and TransJakarta to study the public service obligation (PSO) rules or subsidies for boat services. In addition, the Jakarta Provincial Government must amend the regional regulation concerning TransJakarta.
“So far, TransJakarta has only managed BRT and non-BRT services. Most importantly, regarding the future management of the docks, the docks need to be reviewed again whether the Transportation Agency manages them or TransJakarta as well,” he said.
Furthermore, he highlighted the limited number of boats compared to the number of passengers wishing to travel to the Thousand Islands. Nova intends to summon the Jakarta Transportation Agency and TransJakarta for a joint meeting soon.
“Going forward, we must summon the Transportation Agency and TransJakarta to discuss their readiness for this,” he said.
In line with Nova Paloh, Commission B member Taufik Zoelkifli also supports the Jakarta Provincial Government’s plan. He wants equal public services for Thousand Islands residents, particularly regarding transport services.
“Transport services on the Jakarta mainland and in the Thousand Islands are very unequal, even though the islands also belong to Jakarta,” Taufik said.
Despite his support, Taufik has several critical notes. First, boat fares for passengers heading to or from the Thousand Islands are still far more expensive compared to TransJakarta fares for land-based transport in Jakarta.
“So I think there must still be subsidies, a PSO for boats connecting the Jakarta mainland with the Thousand Islands. I think Rp 40,000 to Rp 70,000 is rather expensive for Thousand Islands residents, especially if they commute back and forth, for example for work on the mainland. Fares must be considered,” he said.
Second, regarding passenger safety and the quality of the boat fleet, because at sea there is a risk of sinking. According to him, the quality of the boats currently managed by the Jakarta Transportation Agency is not good enough.
“Previously, when the Transportation Agency managed them, even with slightly cloudy weather, the boats did not operate, because the quality of the boats was indeed not very good,” Taufik said.
Third, regarding schedule certainty and boat capacity. Fourth, the service must be integrated with land-based transport services in Jakarta.
“So tickets from TransJakarta boats could be integrated with TransJakarta bus tickets on land, or even with the LRT/MRT, mikrotrans, and Jaklingko,” he added.
