DPRD Questions Zero Audit Findings After KPK Names West Lombok Regent a Suspect
The West Lombok Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) is questioning the performance of the district’s Inspectorate after the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) named non-active Regent Lalu Ahmad Zaini a suspect in a corruption case. The DPRD highlighted the absence of any findings from the internal supervisory body, even as the KPK uncovered alleged corruption in a number of projects within the West Lombok Regency Government.
Chairman of Commission III of the West Lombok DPRD, Fauzi, argued that the Inspectorate should have been able to detect irregularities in the implementation of government projects at an early stage. “Today, with the KPK’s findings being so substantial, how is it possible that the Inspectorate did not have a single finding?” Fauzi said on Wednesday (29/7/2026).
The National Awakening Party (PKB) politician assessed that the Inspectorate had failed to carry out its supervisory function. According to him, if the agency had worked in accordance with regulations, the alleged irregularities could have been detected much earlier. “In my opinion, they turned a blind eye and failed. Perhaps if the Inspectorate had worked according to the correct regulations, a disaster of this magnitude would not have occurred in West Lombok,” he stated.
Fauzi revealed that Commission III had summoned the Inspectorate several times to request audits on various issues, including the Masaro waste management project. However, he claimed that to date, the commission has never received any notes or findings from the Inspectorate’s examinations. “For example, we have summoned them several times regarding the Masaro issue and others. But there has not been a single note or finding from the Inspectorate,” he said.
Fauzi also suspected that the Inspectorate was not working independently, but rather following the orders of the regional leadership. “We suspect that the Inspectorate is not working in accordance with existing regulations. It is working to order. Civil servants must work professionally, not on the basis of orders,” he stressed.
Consequently, Fauzi urged Vice Regent of West Lombok, Nurul Adha, to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the Inspectorate’s performance. He argued that a reshuffle of the agency’s ranks is necessary if it is proven to have failed in carrying out its supervisory function. “It must be evaluated; there is no reason to maintain something that has failed,” he concluded.
The KPK had previously conducted a sting operation (OTT) against LAZ at his official residence on Monday (20/7/2026). During the operation, investigators detained 19 individuals. Following intensive examinations, the KPK named three suspects: LAZ, the President Director of PT Air Minum Giri Menang (PT AMGM) Sudirman, and the President Director of PT Meconel Sistim Instrument (PT MSI) Alvonsus Gani.
