Jakarta Regional House of Representatives (DPRD DKI) member Wahyu Dewanto has urged the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government not to cut the budget allocation for public transport development following the proposed adjustment of Transjakarta fares. He stated that while the fare increase could ease the subsidy burden, it should not translate into reduced funding for the transport sector. “We love Transjakarta and the overall comfort of public transport services in Jakarta. Therefore, we do not want public transport services to become stagnant just because the subsidy burden has been increasing,” Wahyu said on Monday. He stressed the need for serious and consistent efforts from the provincial government to build and develop a better public transport system in Jakarta, including improvements in service quality, comfort, punctuality, intermodal integration, and supporting infrastructure across the Greater Jakarta area. Regarding the Jakarta City Transportation Council’s proposal to set the Transjakarta fare at Rp5,000 and introduce a monthly subscription scheme of Rp200,000, Wahyu said these ideas must be examined more thoroughly. “There must be a basis for the calculations, but it still needs to be discussed, as does the timing of its implementation,” he added.
