DPRD DKI Seeks to Model Kepulauan Seribu Development on North Sulawesi

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MANADO – A member of the DKI Jakarta Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) Budget Committee, Muhammad Taufik Zoelkifli, has stated that development in the Kepulauan Seribu regency remains uneven. He indicated that the council’s visit to North Sulawesi would serve as a benchmark to improve development in the island regency.

MTZ made the remarks during a dinner reception with North Sulawesi Governor Mayjen TNI (Purn) Yulius Selvanus, as part of a working visit by leaders and members of DPRD DKI Jakarta bodies to North Sulawesi on Thursday (16/7/2026).

MTZ noted that Jakarta possesses a maritime area and islands spanning a total of 6,900 square kilometres. Despite having a regional budget of Rp 81 trillion, Jakarta still faces problems, including uneven development, particularly in the Kepulauan Seribu. “In fact, Kepulauan Seribu could become something much greater than it is now,” he asserted. The PKS faction chairman added that the area could be developed into a world-class tourist destination or its fisheries could be managed more effectively.

“But before we go that far, why don’t we learn from North Sulawesi’s management?” he said, also speaking on behalf of the DPRD DKI Speaker. He expressed appreciation that the DPRD delegation was honoured to be received by the Governor. “On this working visit to Sulawesi, we started from South Sulawesi, Central Sulawesi, and Southeast Sulawesi. Now we are in North Sulawesi, and this is the only place we have been directly received by the Governor, Mr. Yulius Selvanus,” MTZ said to applause.

Also in attendance were the Chair of the Regional Legislation Body Abdul Aziz, Chair of Commission E DPRD DKI KH M Subki, and Budget Committee members Ferrial Sofyan, Ghozi Zulazmi, Nabilah Aboe Bakar Al Habsyi, and August Hamonangan. Also present were members of the Deliberative Body, including Sholkhah, Nasdiyanto, Zahrina Nurbaiti, Muhammad Al Fatih, and Muhammad Hasan Abdillah, as well as Achmad Yani from the Honorary Body, along with officials and staff of the North Sulawesi Governor and leaders and members of the North Sulawesi DPRD.
