The DKI Jakarta provincial government plans to introduce TransJakarta services to the Thousand Islands. The service will not use buses, but rather boats that will operate on a pattern similar to TransJakarta buses.

Deputy Speaker of the DKI Jakarta DPRD Basri Baco said his party supports the plan. According to him, the development of transportation from mainland Jakarta to the Thousand Islands is one of the DKI provincial government’s concerns.

“Indeed, transportation from the mainland to the Thousand Islands is one of our concerns at the DKI Jakarta provincial government, and we support the plan,” Baco said in a statement on Saturday (15/8/2026).

Baco explained that the term TransJakarta in the plan refers to the service pattern, not the type of vehicle. This is because the mode to be used will be a boat. The boat will not wait until passengers are full before departing. The boat will continue to operate regularly according to the designated route.

“It means the boat just goes around, that’s the essence. It goes back and forth, whether there are passengers or not, it goes back and forth, it just keeps going,” he said.

Baco said the concept is designed to resemble TransJakarta services on land. TransJakarta buses continue to operate according to routes and schedules, whether passenger numbers are low or full.

A similar pattern will later be applied to boat services to the Thousand Islands. Thus, communities in the island region will not have to wait for boats to reach capacity before receiving transportation services.

“Like TransJakarta, whether there are passengers, no passengers, few passengers, or full, it just keeps going around,” he said.

He stressed that the service does not mean buses will be used for sea travel.

“The Governor’s discourse is about TransJakarta, the name is TransJakarta, not a bus. Because later people will think it’s a bus,” he continued.

Regarding who will manage the service, Baco said it still needs further discussion. The DKI DPRD will examine the most appropriate regulations to determine the form of management.

According to him, there are options for the service to be under PT Transportasi Jakarta (TransJakarta) or the DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency.

“We will certainly find the best or most correct regulation. Whether under PT TransJakarta or under the Transportation Agency,” he said.

Baco reiterated that the concept is not about making buses operate at sea, but rather providing boat services with an operational pattern like TransJakarta.

“What is certain is not buses going to sea, not building a bridge for buses, but boats that go around like TransJakarta, roughly like that,” he added.

On the other hand, support for the DKI provincial government’s policy was also expressed by Baco in his capacity as Chairman of the DKI Jakarta Regional Leadership Council of Bapera. During the Regional Working Meeting, he affirmed Bapera’s position as a community organisation that supports the government in implementing programmes for the public.

The DKI Jakarta Bapera Regional Working Meeting was also directed at strengthening organisational consolidation down to the neighbourhood level, with a target for the organisational structure to be formed by the end of the year. In addition, Bapera encourages its cadres to be involved in social and community activities, including assisting residents affected by fire disasters.

Baco hopes the results of the Regional Working Meeting can be conveyed to the Bapera Central Leadership Council and the regional government as material for building cooperation between the organisation and the DKI Jakarta provincial government.

“The hope is that there will be a mutually symbiotic collaboration between Bapera DKI Jakarta and the DKI Jakarta provincial government,” he concluded.
