DPRD Deputy Chairman Calls for Rasuna Said Sidewalk Expansion Following Monorail Pillar Removal
The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has confirmed that all the abandoned monorail pillars on Jalan HR Rasuna Said, South Jakarta, have been cut down and cleared. The Deputy Chairman of the DKI Jakarta Regional People’s Representative Council (DPRD), Wibi Andrino, hopes that the area will be redeveloped. “In my opinion, now that the monorail pillars on Rasuna Said have been removed, this momentum should be used to redesign the area to make it more humane and modern,” Wibi told reporters on Wednesday (25 February 2026). Wibi hopes that the sidewalks will be widened and made more accessible for people with disabilities. He also requested a good drainage system to prevent flooding. “The focus should not only be on smooth traffic flow, but also on the quality of public spaces, starting with wider and more accessible sidewalks, safe bicycle lanes, the addition of green spaces and shade, as well as good lighting and drainage systems,” he said. Furthermore, Wibi said that the Rasuna Said area is a reflection of the city of Jakarta, which he hopes can be viewed on a global scale. “Rasuna Said is a showcase for Jakarta’s business district, so its redesign should reflect a comfortable, orderly, global city that is oriented towards pedestrians and public transport,” he said. 109 Monorail Pillars Removed Previously, Governor Pramono Anung stated that the redevelopment of the area is targeted for completion in June. He said that a total of 109 monorail pillars had previously stood along Rasuna Said. “The monorail, which consisted of 109 pillars, was completely removed and cleared last Saturday,” Pramono said at Jakarta City Hall on Tuesday (24 February). He said that after the pillars were removed, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government would immediately begin further construction, including redesigning pedestrian paths, repairing drainage channels, and adding parks to the area. “We will start construction on the pedestrian paths, drainage channels, parks, and so on. Hopefully, it will be completed by June,” he said. Pramono aims for the appearance of Rasuna Said to be transformed in time for Jakarta’s anniversary celebration on 22 June.
