Jakarta — A member of Jakarta’s provincial parliament from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle faction, Hardiyanto Kenneth, has urged the Jakarta provincial government to act swiftly in regulating areas suspected of harbouring child prostitution practices, following the viral spread of a video alleging child sexual exploitation in the Tamansari area, West Jakarta.

Kenneth characterised alleged child prostitution not as an ordinary legal violation but as a crime against humanity demanding strict enforcement.

“There should be zero tolerance towards perpetrators, pimps, intermediary networks, and anyone allowing this practice to continue,” Kenneth told Kompas.com on Friday (29 May 2026).

According to Kenneth, oversight of hotels, apartments, nightlife venues, and areas prone to prostitution must be intensified.

“Jakarta cannot become a safe haven for sexual predators and human trafficking networks,” he stated.

Kenneth also requested strengthened cyber patrols, as child prostitution and sexual trafficking are reportedly conducted extensively through applications, social media platforms, and closed digital networks.

Beyond enforcement, he emphasised the importance of protecting victims of child sexual exploitation.

Previously, police investigated a viral video on social media depicting a Japanese national allegedly being offered child prostitution services in the Tamansari area, West Jakarta.

In the video uploaded to the X account @hunter_tnok, multiple individuals were heard allegedly offering women whilst mentioning ages of 15 to 17 years.

Metro Tamansari Police Chief Kompol Bobby M Zulfikar stated that his office was still examining the video with the Metro Jaya Police Cyber Team.

“We are still in the process of investigating and probing the matter,” Bobby said.

To date, police continue tracing the veracity of the alleged child prostitution practices shown in the viral video.
