DPRD Commission D urges the Provincial Government to optimise TPS3R for waste management in Jakarta

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The D Commission of Jakarta’s Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) calls on the DKI Jakarta Environment Agency (DLH) to optimise waste processing facilities using the 3R principle (reduce, reuse, recycle) across all areas of Jakarta to tackle the capital’s waste.

“Waste management needs improvement, and we need to know short-, medium-, and long-term strategies for handling waste,” said Yuke Yurike, Chair of Commission D of DPRD DKI Jakarta, in Jakarta on Wednesday.

He said that the plan to restrict waste disposal to the Bantargebang Integrated Waste Processing Facility (TPST Bantargebang) from 1 August 2026 should be noted so that it does not become a problem in the capital.

Yuke stated that the restriction must be accompanied by new moves, such as source-sorted waste segregation that is currently being intensified.

In addition, he said, the Provincial Government also needs to optimise waste treatment facilities with the 3R principle across all Jakarta areas to support organic waste processing.

“TPS 3R needs to be optimised, as it is important to reduce waste to Bantargebang,” he said.

Yuke also highlighted organic waste produced during source sorting, how the collection and final storage system for sorted waste should receive sustainable attention.

“Our concern is, after sorting, how is it transported? If Bantargebang has already started to not permit organics, we must also start processing them,” he said.

Meanwhile, the head of the DKI Jakarta Environment Agency, Dudi Gardesi, acknowledged that the TPS 3R at 31 points across DKI Jakarta is not yet optimal in waste management.

He said TPS 3R is projected to process up to 710 tonnes per day, but currently only about 146 tonnes can be processed.

“Currently, apparently only 146 tonnes are being processed; the rest cannot be processed yet,” he said.
