The Deputy Chairman of the DPR’s Legislative Body (Baleg), Ahmad Iman Sukri, stated that the revision of Law No. 11 of 2006 on Aceh Governance is targeted for completion by July 2026. Iman Sukri made the statement during a hearing session (RDP) with the Aceh Regional People’s Representative Council (DPRA).

Initially, Deputy Chairman II of the DPRA, Ali Basrah, requested clarity on when the bill would be enacted into law during a Baleg DPR meeting at the parliamentary complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Monday (25 May 2026). The DPRA seeks to provide clear information to the people of Aceh regarding the bill.

“This is what we want to know, sir. When can this draft become law? We request assistance, support, and perhaps an explanation so that the governor can inform the Acehnese people upon returning to Aceh,” said Ali.

In response, Iman Sukri said Baleg DPR would form a working committee (panja) for the Aceh Governance Bill. The PKB legislator stated that DPRA’s proposals would be discussed in the panja to reach a decision.

“If the process is in Baleg, after this RDP we’ll immediately form the panja, sir. The DPRA’s input will be incorporated into the panja draft. Tomorrow afternoon, we plan a plenary session for decision-making at the Baleg level,” Iman Sukri said.

“After that, we await the Bamus (House Leadership Council) to schedule the first plenary session. Then we wait for the Draft Input Material (DIM), Presidential Letter, and government’s DIM to be discussed,” he added.

Iman estimated the bill would become law by July 2026. He stated this must be completed before the 2027 National Budget discussions begin in August.

“This is just an estimate, but it must be finished by July, right? Because the 2027 National Budget discussions begin in August. The law needs to take effect and be implemented in 2027,” Iman Sukri said.

“After the first plenary session, we submit it, wait for the Presidential Letter, DIM, and discuss it for a day or two. Insha’Allah, I’m confident everything will be completed by July,” he added.

One of the discussions in the bill involves the removal of Article 256 in Law No. 11 of 2006 on Aceh Governance. The DPRA has agreed to this decision.
