DPR Welcomes Plan to Form Supervisory Board for National Nutrition Agency

Wakil Ketua Komisi IX Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat Charles Honoris has welcomed the plan to form a Supervisory Board for the National Nutrition Agency (Dewas BGN). However, he cautioned that the organisation must be designed to strengthen governance, enhance accountability, and ensure effective oversight of the free nutritious meal programme’s implementation. He argued that the most important aspect is not simply establishing a new institution or appointing personnel. “The Supervisory Board must have clear, independent authority,” Charles said when contacted on Wednesday, 22 July 2026. The plan to form the BGN Supervisory Board was conveyed by President Prabowo Subianto, announced by Nanik Sudaryati Deyang alongside her resignation as Head of BGN. Nanik stated the president had asked her to take up the position of Chair of the BGN Supervisory Board. Nanik said the supervisory role could still be performed whilst she undergoes medical treatment. “The important thing is not being involved with handling money, I swear I have acute trauma,” Nanik said, accompanied by a smile emoji, according to a caption on a Facebook post on Wednesday, 22 July 2026. According to Charles, the BGN Supervisory Board must ensure that every policy, budget usage, and programme implementation adheres to transparency and efficiency, whilst prioritising the safety of beneficiaries. He said his commission remains focused on reforming BGN’s governance. “The change of leadership and the formation of the BGN Supervisory Board must be a momentum to accelerate improvements, not merely a change in organisational structure,” said the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) politician. In a separate occasion, Commission IX member Irma Suryani Chaniago assessed that the agency implementing the free nutritious meal project indeed requires internal oversight. “Commission IX provides external oversight as a government working partner,” she said on Wednesday, 22 July 2026. Irma noted that Nanik has a track record during her tenure as BGN head, frequently engaging in oversight of the free nutritious meal kitchens or nutrition fulfilment service units. “Ms Nanik was hands-on and solution-oriented,” the NasDem Party politician said. Meanwhile, Charles and Irma both respected Nanik Sudaryati Deyang’s decision to resign to focus on medical treatment. Nanik announced she would soon travel abroad to begin treatment for a heart condition. Tempo attempted to contact Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi regarding the president’s plan to form the BGN Supervisory Board, but there had been no response at the time of writing.
