DPR wants consultation revived
JAKARTA: Leaders of the House of Representatives (DPR) agreed
on Thursday to revive a consultation meeting with the President
and proposed that the first meeting be held on July 16.
"The House feels the need to revive such a meeting as there
are too many issues that need to be discussed by the House with
the President," House Speaker Akbar Tandjung said on Thursday
after chairing a House leaders' meeting.
Akbar, who is currently standing trial at the Central Jakarta
Court on a corruption charge, did not mention topics that should
be discussed with President Megawati Soekarnoputri.
However he said the timetable was subject to change depending
on the availability of President Megawati.
The consultation meeting, which was a regular feature at the
start of Abdurrahman "Gus Dur" Wahid's presidency, stopped in
2000 after he accused House members of leaking the content of
meeting discussions to the media. -- Antara
