Jakarta, VIVA – Indrajaya, a member of Commission II of the DPR RI, has asked the government to reconsider plans to raise the salaries of regional heads amid ongoing budget efficiency policies.

The government is known to be planning to revise Government Regulation (PP) Number 109 of 2000 on the Financial Rights of Regional Heads and Deputy Regional Heads.

This revision could open the door to an increase in regional heads’ salaries.

“The plan to raise regional heads’ salaries must be studied in depth,” Indra told reporters on Wednesday, 5 August 2026.

According to Indra, the proposed salary increase must also take into account the state of national finances.

“The government must also consider the national fiscal condition and the priorities for using the state budget,” he explained.

Indra believes the proposal should be accompanied by clear performance indicators adjusted to each region’s achievements. In his view, a salary increase for regional heads must not be treated merely as an entitlement.

“The public has the right to better services, increasingly professional governance, and accelerated development in the regions,” he said.

Indra said the quality of public services, development achievements, levels of community welfare, regional finances, and success in implementing national programmes could all serve as assessment factors for raising regional heads’ salaries.
