DPR Urges Public to Await Official Clarification on Account Freezing

Member of Commission VI of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) Firnando Hadityo Ganinduto has urged the public not to jump to conclusions regarding information about the freezing of accounts at Bank Mandiri. He called on the public to await an official explanation from the authorised parties so that the matter can be understood comprehensively based on the facts and applicable regulations.

According to Firnando, Bank Mandiri, as one of the banks within the state-owned enterprise (BUMN) group, has regulations, procedures, and governance that must be adhered to in carrying out banking activities, including the restriction or temporary suspension of transactions on certain accounts. Such actions may be taken based on banking provisions or if there is a basis or request from authorised parties in a legal process.

“Bank Mandiri, as one of the banks within the BUMN group, certainly has rules and procedures that must be complied with. Therefore, we need to look at this issue comprehensively and await official clarification from the parties concerned,” said Firnando, as quoted from a press release received on Tuesday (25/8).

He explained that if the account freezing is related to legal proceedings against a person who has been named a defendant, the public needs to understand that the freezing is part of a mechanism that must be viewed based on the legal basis and applicable procedures. The status of defendant does not mean that a person has been proven guilty, as the judicial process must still be respected until there is a court ruling with permanent legal force.

Firnando also asked the public not to speculate if there is involvement of law enforcement officials. According to him, information regarding the basis for the freezing, the parties with authority, and the procedures carried out should be conveyed through official clarification to avoid misunderstandings or harm to certain parties.

As a member of Commission VI of the DPR RI, Firnando affirmed that he will continue to carry out the oversight function of state-owned enterprises objectively. “The most important thing now is to await official clarification, respect the legal process, and ensure that all parties exercise their authority in accordance with the rules. Do not let incomplete information create perceptions that harm the public or related parties,” concluded Firnando.
