DPR Urges Police to Thoroughly Investigate Matraman Clash That Killed One

A member of Commission III of the House of Representatives (DPR RI), Nasyirul Falah Amru, has urged the police to thoroughly investigate the clash between residents that occurred in the Matraman area of Jakarta on Sunday (26 July), which resulted in damage to buildings and vehicles and left one person dead.

He expressed regret and concern over the incident. According to him, the case could actually have been anticipated, as similar incidents have occurred repeatedly at the location.

“I am very confident that the police, in this case the Regional Police Chief, can resolve this matter, and of course we greatly expect professionalism from the police force,” Falah said in Jakarta on Monday.

“Whatever the reason, what they did cannot be justified in the eyes of the law,” he said.

Previously, Jakarta Metro Police named seven people as suspects in two separate cases that led to the clash on Jalan Tambak, Pegangsaan subdistrict, Menteng, Central Jakarta, on Sunday (26 July).

Chief of the Public Relations Division of Jakarta Metro Police, Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto, said the seven suspects comprised four people in a case involving the destruction of street vendors’ carts and three people in a mob beating that resulted in one fatality.

He explained that the four suspects in the destruction of nasi uduk carts on Jalan Matraman Dalam bore the initials GNA, AJL, FAM and ELL. Meanwhile, in the mob beating on Jalan Tambak that cost a person’s life, investigators named three suspects with the initials SK, AS and OR.
