Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives’ Commission III, Ahmad Sahroni, has called on police not only to pursue criminal proceedings in the alleged fraud case involving Marwah Wedding Organiser but also to secure refunds for victims.

The request follows the arrest of the couple who own Marwah Wedding Organiser by the East Jakarta Metro Police Criminal Investigation Unit. The case has drawn public attention as numerous couples reportedly paid for wedding services that were never delivered.

Sahroni praised the police’s swift action in apprehending the suspects, noting that such cases cause significant psychological harm to victims, particularly young couples who had saved for months to realise their dream weddings.

“Therefore, I urge the police to secure refunds for victims from the perpetrators and ensure maximum legal action is taken against them,” Sahroni stated in Jakarta on Monday, 1 June 2026.

Victims’ Rights Restoration Must Be Priority

The NasDem Party politician said investigators should not solely focus on criminal law enforcement against suspects, adding that restoring victims’ rights must be a key concern throughout legal proceedings.

Sahroni stressed the state must intervene to uphold the rights of citizens defrauded, particularly in cases causing substantial losses and prolonged trauma.

“Such crimes are all too common, and we certainly do not want them to keep happening, as they consistently involve numerous victims and cause severe trauma,” he said.

He also emphasised the importance of compelling perpetrators to refund the losses inflicted on victims.

“The state must act to defend victims’ rights and enforce restitution. Such cases must not recur,” Sahroni stressed.

He added that refunding victims’ losses is crucial to delivering justice in society.

Problematic Wedding Organiser Cases Recur Frequently

Sahroni noted that alleged fraud cases involving wedding organisers are not isolated incidents. He highlighted the recurring nature of such cases, which often victimise couples who pay in advance for services that never materialise.
