DPR Urges Police to Immediately Arrest Perpetrator of Three-Year Confinement and Abuse of Woman

Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) Cucun Ahmad Syamsurijal has urged the police to immediately arrest the suspected perpetrator, identified by the initials TH, for the confinement and abuse of a woman, YTR (29), in Bandung Regency, West Java, which resulted in the victim sustaining serious injuries. As a legislator from the electoral district where the incident occurred, he confirmed he has communicated with the West Java Police Chief and his ranks, and wants firm action taken against the suspect.

“The police must also be able to thoroughly investigate this case and impose a heavy sentence on the perpetrator because his actions were extremely heinous,” Cucun said at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta on Tuesday (23/6/2026).

According to him, the perpetrator can not only be charged with articles related to kidnapping and abuse, but can also be ensnared by Law Number 12 of 2022 concerning the Crime of Sexual Violence (UU TPKS). “It also needs to be investigated whether there was potential torture and sexual exploitation carried out by the perpetrator against the victim,” he said.

Furthermore, he stressed the importance of rehabilitation for the victim because the injuries suffered by YTR are quite severe and occurred over a prolonged period. “In addition to medical care, psychological rehabilitation is also important because the confinement and violence experienced by the victim can cause trauma. Health and psychological assistance must be completed until the victim recovers fully,” he said.

In light of this case, he also urged the public to be sensitive to situations in their surroundings. If such things occur, the public is asked to immediately report them to the police so they can be acted upon as quickly as possible. “This is because there are fears due to threats or whatever, so the victim or her family did not dare to report it,” he said.
