DPR Urges Police to Dismantle Human Trafficking Syndicates to the Root

Member of the House of Representatives Commission III, Mercy Chriesty Barends, has urged the Indonesian National Police not to rest on their laurels following the arrest of a fugitive involved in a human trafficking syndicate. She stated that the arrest of Leny Agustya, a red notice fugitive suspected of being part of a network that illegally sent Indonesian migrant workers to Cambodia, should serve as a crucial benchmark in the war against the crime of human trafficking. “If the police and other relevant parties work with high determination, persistence, and consistency, the human trafficking network will surely be uncovered,” Mercy said in Jakarta on Tuesday. She believes many other perpetrators like Leny are still freely recruiting, deceiving, and sending Indonesian citizens abroad through illegal channels. Mercy emphasized that all actors involved, from recruiters and brokers to providers of fake documents and the intellectual actors who enjoy the profits from this crime, must be arrested and processed according to the law.
