A brutal and deadly attack by Israel and the United States against Iran on Saturday 28 February shocked the world.

Oleh Soleh, a member of the DPR’s Commission I from the PKB faction, has urged the Indonesian Government to take a bold stance on the international stage by advocating strict sanctions against the United States and Israel. This call comes following reports of the assassination of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, carried out by the two countries.

Oleh emphasised that such actions constitute a grave violation of international law and represent a direct attack on the sovereignty of a legitimate United Nations member state.

“I am calling on the Indonesian Government to be at the forefront in advocating sanctions against Israel and the United States. This chaos and escalation is clearly triggered by the actions of both countries,” Oleh stated on Monday 2 March 2026.

Oleh said that the assassination of the highest authority of a nation cannot be justified under any circumstances. He believes that the international community can no longer turn a blind eye to practices that undermine global order.

Oleh highlighted that alleged war crimes involving the US and Israel have occurred repeatedly, yet have not received commensurate sanctions from the international community.

“Iran is a UN member with rights and sovereignty that must be respected. The UN cannot remain silent. There must be concrete and firm action. If left unchecked, global order will deteriorate further,” he asserted.

Furthermore, Oleh contended that the attack on Iran has tarnished global commitment to world stability. He described the incident as contradicting the spirit of peace that should underpin relations between nations.

“The spirit of the Board of Peace (BoP) should serve as the foundation for creating peace, not as a justification for acts of war. This incident undermines global commitment to peace and world stability,” he concluded.

Geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, particularly involving Iran, have the potential to trigger global economic repercussions. Amid developments in the Middle East region—specifically the war between the US and Israel against Iran—Pertamina is taking mitigation measures to maintain the stability of national energy supply.

Constitutional law expert Radian Syam views the Israel, US-Iran conflict as a test of whether the world still stands on the supremacy of law or has shifted toward the dominance of power. Tensions between the United States and Iran reached a peak after the latest diplomatic efforts in Geneva ended without agreement in early March 2026.
