DPR Urges BGN Electric Motorcycle Grants Must Not Burden Honorary Teachers

Deputy Chairman of Commission X of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Lalu Hadrian Irfani, has welcomed the proposal to grant electric motorcycles owned by the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) to honorary teachers, with the caveat that the plan does not create new burdens. “The most important thing is that this issue does not create new burdens for our honorary teachers. That is all,” Lalu told reporters at the DPR Building in Jakarta on Wednesday, 24 June 2026. Before the plan is realised, the government must ensure the administrative aspects are in order. Lalu Hadrian advised that the electric motorcycles to be granted must be confirmed to have no connection to the alleged corruption case currently being investigated by the Attorney General’s Office. “First ensure this is not problematic, both the motorcycles themselves and after they are used, whether the motorcycles truly have service centres available and so forth,” he said. He described the plan as a “clever idea” as a form of appreciation for teachers with non-civil servant status. According to Hadrian, the electric motorcycle grant proposal could become a source of hope if implemented properly. “Ensure the motorcycles can be used, that is what is important, because information circulating today also suggests some of the motorcycles are in the assembly process, but once again we remind you, please proceed as long as it does not violate any rules or regulations,” he stated. Previously, Deputy Chairman of Commission IX DPR, Yahya Zaini, expressed support for BGN’s plan to grant electric motorcycles, which were originally purchased for the operations of the Nutrition Fulfilment Service Units (SPPG), to honorary teachers. Yahya, in a written statement on Friday, 19 June 2026, said the move is an appropriate solution so that assets purchased using the state budget remain beneficial to the public. “During a meeting with Commission IX, Mrs Arumsari (Deputy Head of BGN Agustina Arumsari) said the electric motorcycles would be granted to honorary teachers in the regions and I agree with the plan,” he said. Nevertheless, Yahya emphasised that from the outset he had disagreed with the procurement of electric motorcycles for the SPPG. The legislator focusing on social security affairs said the vehicles were not suited to the needs of the kitchen managers.
