DPR Urges Attorney General's Office to Be Transparent in Revealing Febrie Adriansyah's Whereabouts

House of Representatives Commission III member Hinca Panjaitan has urged the Attorney General’s Office to process the alleged corruption case of former Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes Febrie Adriansyah transparently. Hinca demanded the Attorney General’s Office be transparent, including by answering a number of crucial questions that have become a public spotlight, such as the detention status and current whereabouts of the suspect. He stated that the guarantee of transparency in handling this case lies in consistent joint oversight by parliament, the media, and the public.

‘We will follow it together. We are following, the media is following, we all criticise it every day. For example, the question of where Febrie is now? That must be answered, we must ask that,’ Hinca said at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, on Monday.

Besides questioning the suspect’s whereabouts, Hinca also urged the Attorney General’s Office to examine and openly disclose other parties suspected of being involved or affiliated in this case. He assessed that such transparency is important to address public doubt that the case is being deliberately localised or covered up. ‘Then, how many witnesses? Who are the witnesses? Where is the evidence? That is part of our checking so that our doubts are explained in detail,’ explained the Democratic Party politician.

Hinca mentioned that the Commission III Legal Oversight Working Committee is ready to use its authority to summon the Attorney General’s Office’s investigation team. However, considering the case is still at the investigation stage, the hearing mechanism to examine the case material will be held behind closed doors to respect legal procedure and the presumption of innocence. Nevertheless, the general results of the oversight will still be conveyed to the public. ‘We voice what the public voices. If necessary, this working committee will summon the investigators, but the meeting will be closed because it is under investigation. But we will explain it to the public in general. The point is we are overseeing this. This working committee is overseeing this,’ Hinca concluded.
