The Chairman of Commission II of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Rifqinizamy Karsayuda, stated that the commission has agreed to undertake a legislative breakthrough by inviting various experts to provide input on elections, even though the Working Committee for the Bill on Amendments to Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning General Elections (RUU Pemilu) has not yet been formed. Under normal legislative procedures in the DPR RI, the process of gathering input from various parties typically occurs only after the formation of a working committee or a special committee for law drafting. “We are inviting experts, academics, and NGOs that care about elections and democracy before the Working Committee is formed,” said Rifqimazy in the parliamentary complex, Jakarta, on Tuesday. He noted that Commission II is actively inviting various stakeholders regarding elections and democracy to provide feedback following the official assignment from the 2025 National Legislative Program (Prolegnas). According to him, suggestions and input must be gathered to listen to the objective views of various parties regarding the evaluation of elections held from 1999 to the present. This includes identifying what improvement agendas are needed for our future elections and democracy. On Tuesday, Commission II of the DPR RI invited two election experts, namely Professor Ramlan Surbekti and Professor Siti Zuhro. “We grant full freedom to both professors to convey key thoughts that we must follow up on during the legislative process,” he added.
