DPR to Summon BNN and Batam Prosecutor's Office Regarding the Fandi Case
The DPR’s Commission III will summon the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) and the Batam Prosecutor’s Office regarding the case of nearly 2 tons of crystal meth found on the Sea Dragon ship in the Riau Islands waters in May 2025.
Chairman of DPR’s Commission III, Habiburokhman, stated that they will request an explanation regarding the case, especially the death penalty sought for Fandi Ramadhan, one of the crew members of the Sea Dragon.
The death penalty sought for Fandi has drawn attention because he is not considered the mastermind and was allegedly unaware of the crystal meth found on the ship.
“DPR’s Commission III will summon the BNN investigators and the Head of the Batam Prosecutor’s Office for case number 863/Pid.Sus/2025/PN Btm to provide a clear explanation regarding the case they are handling,” said Habib while receiving a delegation of Fandi’s parents at the parliament complex, Jakarta, Thursday (26/2).
The plan to summon them is one of the key points in the conclusion of the meeting.
Habib also reminded that the handling of Fandi’s case should adhere to the principles of justice as outlined in the Criminal Code.
In addition, DPR’s Commission III also requested that the Deputy Attorney General for Supervision (Jamwas) reprimand the public prosecutor in Fandi’s case at the Batam District Court for stating that the DPR had interfered.
“DPR’s Commission III requests the Deputy Attorney General for Supervision to reprimand and examine the public prosecutor of the Batam Prosecutor’s Office in case number 803/Pid.Sus/2025/PN Btm, Mr. Muhammad Arfian, to be more careful in expressing opinions publicly,” he said.
Furthermore, Commission III also requested that the Judicial Commission intervene by overseeing the trial process in Fandi’s case to ensure it complies with the law.
“DPR’s Commission III requests the Judicial Commission to oversee the handling of case number 12/Pid.B/2026/PN Mtr and number 863/Pid.Sus/2026/PN Btm in accordance with applicable laws and regulations,” said the Gerindra politician.
