DPR to Pursue Asset Forfeiture Bill During Recess to Meet Year-End Target

The Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) is open to continuing deliberations on the Asset Forfeiture Bill, even during the recess period. This step is being taken to meet the target of completing it this year. Deputy Speaker of the DPR, Saan Mustopa, stressed that the draft law on state asset recovery has been included in the 2026 Priority National Legislation Programme (Prolegnas). Therefore, accelerating the discussion is a necessity. “Yes, because once again, this is a priority of the 2026 Prolegnas. We will make every effort to push it forward,” Saan said at the Parliament Complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday (14/7). Saan guaranteed that the DPR would uphold the principle of openness in discussing the Asset Forfeiture Bill. He ensured that the door for input, criticism, and recommendations from various elements of civil society remains open throughout the process of formulating the articles. He stated that meaningful public participation would be a main pillar in perfecting the draft of this bill so that it does not spark controversy in the future. “We are still listening; we will open the widest possible space for public participation regarding the discussion of the Asset Forfeiture Bill. So, we are opening the space as widely as possible,” said the NasDem Party politician.
