DPR to Invite National Police and Human Rights Groups to Discuss Andrie Yunus Case After Eid
The head of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR), Habiburokhman, announced that the nearest working meeting (rapat kerja) will be held after Eid to discuss the Andrie Yunus case. “We will invite Polri, we will invite relevant parties, including possibly the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK) and the Commission for Disappearances and Victims of Violence (KontraS),” said Habiburokhman at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta on Monday.
However, should an urgent situation arise, he noted that Commission III could also convene a meeting before Eid. He assured that Commission III is currently taking the case seriously.
“We are giving space and time to Polri and Polri investigators to carry out their duties,” he stated.
He also urged the National Police to actively counter the spread of inaccurate information, particularly regarding photographs of the perpetrator that have been processed using artificial intelligence (AI). According to Habiburokhman, many members of the public have been misled by these AI-generated images, and even he initially believed the photographs to be genuine.
“Even I thought until last night that the image was real. When I checked and called, ‘oh that’s AI, sir,’ my friends at Polri told me,” he said.
Previously, the Jakarta Metro Police announced their commitment to thoroughly investigate the acid attack case against Andrie Yunus. Kombes Pol Budi Hermanto, head of the Jakarta Metro Police Public Relations Division, stated in Jakarta on Sunday that investigators are working extremely hard in the field.
“The police’s primary focus is to reveal the identity and apprehend the perpetrator behind this criminal act, which damages democracy, through a scientific crime investigation approach,” he said.
