Jakarta — Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) will invite Nabilah O’Brien, owner of Bibi Kelinci Kopitiam in Kemang, South Jakarta, who says she is a theft victim but has been named a suspect. Chairman Habiburokhman said Nabilah would be invited to the public hearing (RDPU) scheduled at the parliament complex in Jakarta on Monday, 9 March. ‘We will invite Nabilah O’Brien together with her legal counsel and the relevant law enforcement officials,’ he said. He added that the meeting is being held to implement Commission III’s duty to oversee the work of law enforcement agencies, as a partner institution. ‘We are optimistic the meeting will yield a positive result in the sense that no citizen will be criminalised,’ he said.

Earlier, Nabilah claimed that she, as a theft victim, was named a suspect at Bareskrim Polri after discussing the case on social media. ‘I am a theft victim who has become a suspect at Bareskrim Polri. I have kept quiet for five months because I was afraid to speak out,’ she said when contacted in Jakarta on Friday. Consequently, she asked Commission III of the DPR RI and Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo to provide justice for her. ‘Mr/Madam Chairman of Commission III and Mr Police Chief, I beg you to provide (legal certainty). I am a theft victim. I hope to continue my life and I am confident justice can be upheld. This is all I can do. I do not know where to take shelter,’ she said.

The case began with a husband-and-wife couple venting their anger at a restaurant. Not only did they abuse the kitchen staff, they also left with food without paying. The video was first uploaded to the Instagram account @nabobrien on 20 September 2025. In the post, she shared CCTV footage capturing the alleged food theft. In the caption, Nabilah explained that that evening the restaurant was crowded, so orders took longer to prepare. The situation apparently caused one of the female customers to impatiently force entry into the kitchen area. ‘Waiting for around 30 minutes, this woman entered the kitchen (which is prohibited), berated my head chef and threatened to ransack my restaurant,’ the post read. After entering, the woman, who was wearing a mask, continued to berate the head of the kitchen staff. Not only the woman, the man accompanying her also entered the kitchen area. He was seen berating the kitchen staff and venting his anger by striking a refrigeration unit and pointing at the head chef. However, after the disturbance subsided, the pair left the kitchen carrying 11 meals and three beverages that had been prepared, without paying. CCTV footage also showed a staff member chasing the two fleeing customers to the car park to demand payment of Rp530,000. Instead of paying, the couple threatened him. The couple then left the premises carrying the 11 meals and three drinks they had ordered. Later, two individuals believed to be identified by the initials ZK and ER were named as suspects.
