The House of Representatives (DPR) Commission VIII will soon form a working committee (panja) to discuss in detail the evaluation of the 1447 Hijri/2026 Hajj season and the proposed cost of the Hajj pilgrimage (BPIH) for 1448 Hijri/2027. The government has proposed a BPIH of Rp107.34 million per person for 2027. Commission VIII Chairman Marwan Dasopang stated that the working committee would be tasked with formulating recommendations for improving Hajj services based on the evaluation of this year’s season, as well as discussing the components of the 2027 Hajj financing. Minister of Hajj and Umrah Mochamad Irfan Yusuf explained that the proposed cost increase was influenced by several factors, including the assumed rupiah exchange rate, rising flight costs, accommodation in Makkah and Madinah, land transportation, and Masyair services. Other factors include health services, the strengthening of the health istitha’ah programme, the provision of ready-to-eat meals, adjustments to accommodation distribution in Madinah, and financing needs for pilgrims who cancel their departure. Marwan added that the working committee would examine all evaluation findings, service improvement recommendations, and every component of the Hajj financing once it is officially formed. He emphasised that the committee would serve as a forum to review all aspects of Hajj management to continuously improve service quality for pilgrims while ensuring that the financing is structured efficiently, transparently, and accountably. The formation of the working committee is a crucial stage in the process of drafting the 2027 BPIH. Under the applicable mechanism, the final cost will be discussed jointly by the DPR and the government, taking into account various components including operational costs, the financial capacity of pilgrims, and the principle of sustainable Hajj fund management.
