DPR Vice Chair Sufmi Dasco Ahmad stated that DPR leadership has held a meeting with the DPR Legislative Body regarding the continuation of discussions on two bills: the Domestic Worker Protection Bill (RUU PPRT) and the Copyright Bill (RUU Hak Cipta). Both bills will be discussed in DPR leadership meetings and sessions with the DPR Consultative Body.

“The Domestic Worker Protection Bill and Copyright Bill will be passed at plenary session as DPR legislative initiatives,” Dasco said at the DPR, MPR, and DPD complex on Wednesday, 11 March 2026.

The DPR Legislative Body held a working committee meeting on the harmonisation, refinement, and finalisation of the Copyright Bill. DPR Legislative Body member Once Mekel stated that the meeting discussed various substantive matters to ensure regulations that are more adaptive to developments in the creative industries.

As the proposing body, Mekel continued, the Legislative Body is committed to ensuring the Copyright Bill is better than before and can provide legal certainty for stakeholders in Indonesia’s copyright ecosystem. “We want this to be higher quality, especially to benefit creators, related rights holders, performers, labels, and the public who utilise these works,” said Once.

The Domestic Worker Protection Bill has been proposed for DPR discussion since 2004. In the 2024-2029 DPR term, the bill was included in the 2025 National Legislative Programme (Prolegnas). However, its discussion has yet to reach a clear resolution. During the 19th DPR plenary session in the fourth session of 2022-2023, nine parliamentary party factions agreed to adopt the Domestic Worker Protection Bill as a DPR legislative initiative.

Previously, the National Network for Domestic Worker Advocacy (JALA PRT) questioned the DPR and government’s commitment to discussing and passing the Domestic Worker Protection Bill. President Prabowo Subianto stated on 1 May 2025 that the bill would be completed within three months. “What has actually happened, that it has not been passed after 22 years?” asked JALA PRT Coordinator Lita Anggraini during a hearing at the DPR building on Thursday, 5 March 2026.

DPR Chair Puan Maharani explained the reasons the Domestic Worker Protection Bill has not yet been completed and passed. Puan stated that the DPR is still seeking input from various stakeholders to complete the bill’s contents to ensure it does not overlap with other laws. “So that meaningful participation is not just from one side, but from everyone, to make it more comprehensive,” said the PDIP politician on 10 March 2026.

Besides the Domestic Worker Protection Bill and Copyright Bill, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad stated that the Legislative Body is also soon scheduling discussions on other bills such as the Labour Bill, Criminal Asset Forfeiture Bill, and the Single Data Bill. “There is already commitment from the Legislative Body and relevant commissions to meet the targets for drafting important legislation that is the focus of public attention to be completed soon,” said the DPP Daily Chair of Gerindra Party.
