A number of commissions are reportedly set to hold meetings during the DPR’s month-long recess, which runs from 21 July until mid-August.

One of the items on the agenda is deliberation of the Asset Forfeiture Bill (RUU Perampasan Aset).

Deputy Speaker of the DPR, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, said he had granted permission for several commissions to continue holding legislative meetings during the recess.

“We will allow it during the recess, provided they request permission in accordance with the applicable mechanisms,” Dasco said at the plenary session closing the fifth session period on Tuesday (21 July).

Dasco revealed that among the commissions that had requested to hold legislative meetings was Commission III of the DPR, which will continue public hearings (RDPU) on the Asset Forfeiture Bill.

Dasco said he supports accelerating deliberation of the bill, given public dynamics and pressure. Although over the past two months, public hearings on the bill have been running continuously.

“For Commission III, we support them continuing to deliberate it, because of the public perception that the DPR does not want to discuss the asset forfeiture law,” he said.

Apart from the Asset Forfeiture Bill, two other bills will be discussed during the recess: the Road Traffic and Transport Bill (RUU LLAJ) and the Copyright Bill, as well as the One Data Indonesia Bill, which has only just been adopted as a DPR initiative proposal.

“Several commissions have already requested permission to deliberate, to continue deliberating bills during the recess,” he said.
