DPR Targets Completion of Asset Forfeiture Bill by 2026

The House of Representatives (DPR) has denied allegations that it is obstructing the deliberation of the Asset Forfeiture Bill, asserting that the regulation remains a priority in the national legislation programme. Deputy Speaker Saan Mustopa stated that the DPR is fully committed to supporting anti-corruption efforts and that the bill is crucial for strengthening the legal framework. He dismissed circulating rumours that the DPR was rejecting the bill as untrue. Saan also refuted claims of a rift between the DPR and the government regarding the bill, emphasising that both institutions share a commitment to bolstering the corruption eradication system in line with President Prabowo Subianto’s Asta Cita vision. He explained that Commission III is currently deepening the bill’s substance through public hearings and forums involving academics, activists, and other stakeholders. The DPR is targeting to finalise the deliberation of the Asset Forfeiture Bill in 2026, as it is a national legislative priority. To achieve this, the DPR is open to continuing discussions during the recess period if necessary. Saan stressed that public participation is essential to ensure the resulting regulation is comprehensive and robust.
