DPR Targets Completion of Asset Forfeiture Bill by 2026

Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) Saan Mustopa stated that the institution is striving to complete the Draft Law on Asset Forfeiture this year. “This is a priority for 2026, and of course, because it is a 2026 priority, we will make every effort to finalise it this year,” Saan said during a press conference at the DPR Building in Jakarta on Tuesday. Saan dismissed narratives circulating on social media suggesting that the DPR had rejected the ratification of the Asset Forfeiture Bill. He stressed that the bill has not been removed from the 2026 Priority National Legislation Programme (Prolegnas) list. “As much input as possible from the public is important. With comprehensive materials from the public during the deliberation, it is hoped that this Asset Forfeiture Bill will become even more perfect,” he said. Saan added that the drafting of the Asset Forfeiture Bill demonstrates the commitment of the government and parliament to eradicating corruption. Previously, Chairman of Commission III of the DPR RI, Habiburokhman, also confirmed that the deliberation of the Asset Forfeiture Bill is still ongoing. “It is not true that there are hoaxes in the media, mostly from anonymous accounts, saying the DPR has rejected the ratification of the Asset Forfeiture Bill,” Habib said during a Public Hearing Meeting (RDPU) on the bill at the DPR Building in Jakarta on Monday. He stated that the Asset Forfeiture Bill constitutes a new regulation not previously covered in existing laws, hence the deliberation takes time to receive input from various parties. The discussion of the bill is a priority for Commission III. Habib said his side is currently focusing the discussion agenda on the Asset Forfeiture Bill and has not yet scheduled RDPUs for other bills. “We are going full throttle. For now, we have not scheduled RDPUs for other laws besides the Asset Forfeiture Bill because we are indeed prioritising it,” Habib said during the press conference.
