Jakarta – A member of the House of Representatives’ Commission III from the Nasdem Faction, Rudianto Lallo, has welcomed the proposal from the Head of the National Narcotics Agency (BNN), Inspector General of Police Suyudi Ario Seto, regarding the ban on the circulation of electronic cigarettes or vapes.

This support comes in response to the growing findings of vape misuse as a medium for consuming narcotics.

He assessed that the BNN’s proposal is an appropriate step, grounded in in-depth studies and research on the content of harmful substances such as etomidate in vapes.

“Like this, in my view, especially if there is research, the results of the study on the contents in vapes. Well, vapes do contain narcotic substances or whatever it’s called, etomidate. I think that proposal is good in my opinion,” Rudianto told reporters on Friday, 10 April 2026.

Moreover, he said, if there are medical research results proving the presence of narcotics in vapes, then the proposal must be supported by the government.

“As long as it is suspected and believed based on strong medical research or studies that it contains narcotic substances, then yes, we must support and respond to the statement from the BNN Head so that vapes are also included as items containing narcotic substances,” he stated.

Rudianto also highlighted the potential for vapes to be used as a medium like a ‘bong’ for consuming other types of narcotics, namely methamphetamine and marijuana.

Therefore, he considered the BNN’s proposal regarding the vape ban as a good step in efforts to prevent narcotics.

“It cannot be denied that today the dealers design these narcotic substance variants so subtly. They use all sorts of methods to then become a connecting tool or medium for free consumption without public awareness,” he said.

“As a state organ tasked with eradicating narcotics, I think what BNN is doing here is a preventive effort to anticipate the potential for narcotic misuse, one of which is allegedly through vapes,” Rudianto added.

Furthermore, Rudianto also reminded vape electronic cigarette business actors to be wary of product misuse as a bridge for narcotics distribution.

Previously reported, the Head of the National Narcotics Agency (BNN), Inspector General of Police Suyudi Ario Seto, revealed a new phenomenon in narcotics distribution. Recently, he said, vape liquid is being used in the circulation of narcotic substances.
