DPR Summons Police Chief and Attorney General, Stresses Affection for Both Institutions

Chairman of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Habiburokhman, summoned National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo and Attorney General ST Burhanuddin on Tuesday, 14 July 2026. On that occasion, Habiburokhman stressed that his commission holds both law enforcement institutions in high regard. He made the statement following a polemic suggesting the National Police were at odds with the Attorney General’s Office in the wake of the case involving former Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus), Febrie Adriansyah. “We care for both of these institutions, we do not want any friction. So we invited them, I took a photo, and they were laughing happily,” Habiburokhman told reporters at the Parliament Complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday. Habiburokhman asserted that Commission III does not want any inter-institutional friction between the National Police and the Attorney General’s Office as a result of the Febrie Adriansyah case. He considers both the Police and the Attorney General’s Office to be performing well in their service to the state. “Mr. Kapolri is a good person, Mr. Jaksa Agung is a good person, the National Police institution has also been working very well, the Attorney General’s Office is working very well,” Habiburokhman said. “We are very concerned that there should be no friction between institutions regarding Mr. Febri’s case,” he continued. Furthermore, Commission III supports the National Police’s move to hand over the Febrie Adriansyah case to the Attorney General’s Office. He is confident that the Attorney General’s Office upholds its independence in handling cases. “Why? Because we also believe the Attorney General’s Office has an apparatus with independent prosecutors. Even when examining a fellow prosecutor, their reference point is definitely the law and justice,” he concluded. Amidst intense scrutiny of the relationship between the National Police and the Attorney General’s Office following the emergence of a corruption and money laundering case implicating former Jampidsus Febrie Adriansyah, a different scene was observed at the Attorney General’s Office building on Monday, 13 July 2026. National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo arrived with key police headquarters officials to meet Attorney General ST Burhanuddin. The atmosphere, initially predicted to be tense, turned warm from the start of the press conference. Smiling, Sigit opened his remarks with an unusual salutation, referring to Burhanuddin as ‘kakak asuh’ (foster brother), a term known in police tradition as a sign of respect for a senior who guides a member’s career journey.
