DPR Speaker Vows Parliament Will Question Reasons Behind TNI Alert Level 1 Declaration
Jakarta — The Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR RI), Puan Maharani, stated that relevant commissions within the DPR will request an explanation from the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) regarding the status of the implementation of Alert Level 1. Commission I of the DPR, which oversees defence matters, serves as the TNI’s partner institution.
She assessed that it is indeed appropriate for military personnel to maintain constant readiness. Accordingly, Puan intends to question the TNI’s considerations in implementing this status, which has recently become a topic of public discussion.
“However, if such a notification letter has subsequently been issued in circumstances such as these, one might ask whether it is necessary or not?” said Puan following her leadership of a plenary session at the Parliamentary Complex in Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday (10 March 2026).
For this reason, according to her, the TNI must provide clear and concrete explanations to the DPR. This would enable legislators, as the TNI’s partners, to understand the armed forces’ decision to implement Alert Level 1 in relation to the situation in the Middle East.
