DPR Speaker Puan's Response to the Death of TNI Soldiers in Lebanon
House of Representatives (DPR) Speaker Puan Maharani has responded to the deaths of three Indonesian National Army (TNI) soldiers due to an Israeli attack in Lebanon on 29-30 March 2026. According to her, Indonesia’s involvement in maintaining world peace is never in a completely safe space.
“Even though (their assignment) is carried out under an international mandate,” said Puan in a written statement on Wednesday, 1 April 2026.
She stated that Indonesia’s commitment to engaging in realising world peace is often paid for with heavy responsibilities. Puan assessed that the fall of the three peacekeeping troops should strengthen national and international awareness.
“War must be stopped immediately. How many victims have fallen for the power of certain parties,” she said.
According to her, the public has so far only understood the country’s active involvement in peacekeeping operations as merely a symbol of diplomacy. In reality, she said, there are real risks that must be read as part of changes in the global conflict landscape.
“Where the boundaries between war zones, civilian areas, and international protection areas are becoming increasingly blurred,” she said.
Puan called on the United Nations (UN) to act boldly in investigating the attack in Lebanon. This Chairwoman of the PDI Perjuangan Central Executive Board also encouraged the country to map adaptive strategies for the nation’s troops in conflict zones.
“The state also has the right to demand accountability from the international community as a form of protection for every drop of Indonesian blood,” said Puan.
In addition, she urged the government and TNI to give due honours to the three soldiers. According to her, the rights of the three fallen peacekeeping troops as humanitarian heroes must be provided by the state.
The first explosion due to the Israeli attack occurred on Sunday, 29 March 2026, causing Praka Farizal Rhomadhon to fall. Three other TNI soldiers were injured, namely Praka Rico Pramudia, Praka Bayu Prakoso, and Praka Arif Kurniawan.
The day after, an explosion in southern Lebanon killed two TNI soldiers. The two victims were Captain Inf Zulmi Aditya Iskandar and Sergeant Major Muhammad Nur Ichwan. Two other Indonesian military soldiers were also injured, namely Lieutenant Inf Sulthan Wirdean Maulana and Praka Deni Rianto.
Head of the Defence Information Bureau of the Ministry of Defence Brigadier General Rico Ricardo Sirait said that the safety of peacekeeping troops must be the top priority. The Ministry of Defence, he said, asks all parties involved in the conflict to respect international humanitarian law, including ensuring the security of peacekeeping personnel.
“Indonesia remains committed to actively contributing to maintaining world peace and supporting regional stability through participation in UN peacekeeping missions,” he said on Tuesday, 31 March 2026.
