“On behalf of the leadership and members of the DPR, we express our profound condolences over the passing of His Excellency Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, due to the US-Israeli military attacks on Iranian territory,” Maharani said while opening a new parliamentary session on Tuesday.

She said Indonesia, as a nation that upholds independence, lasting peace, and social justice as enshrined in its Constitution, conveyed deep sympathy to the Iranian people.

Maharani also expressed concern over the escalating conflict in the Middle East, saying that the use of military force undermines national sovereignty and reflects attempts by one country to dominate another.

She said the ongoing conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran is not merely a regional dispute, but also poses challenges to the future of global governance.

The conflict, she added, highlights shortcomings in the global security framework in maintaining a balance of interests among countries and international organizations and in preventing further escalation.

The situation underscores the importance of strengthening international law, reinforcing the role of international institutions in maintaining global peace and stability, and recognizing the right of nations to defend their sovereignty, Maharani said.

The House of Representatives supports efforts and initiatives aimed at resolving the conflict peacefully and preventing it from spreading further, she added.

She also urged the United Nations to act promptly to ensure compliance with international law, protect civilians, and safeguard global peace and stability.

Following the death of Ali Khamenei, Iran’s Assembly of Experts appointed Mojtaba Khamenei as the new Supreme Leader, who will lead the country amid its conflict with the United States and Israel, according to state media reports on Monday.
