DPR Speaker Calls for Regular Evaluation of ASN WFH Policy
DPR Speaker Puan Maharani has requested the government to evaluate the effectiveness of the work-from-home (WFH) policy for civil servants every Friday. According to Puan, the policy, which aims to save fuel oil (BBM) amid the Middle East conflict, must not reduce the productivity of civil servants as public servants.
“This WFH must not be allowed to run merely as an administrative policy without clear evaluation indicators. There must be regular evaluations to ensure whether the WFH model one day a week for civil servants is running effectively,” said the PDI Perjuangan politician in a written statement quoted on Friday, 3 April 2026.
Puan views ASN WFH not merely as a matter of flexibility, but how state officials adapt to changes without sacrificing the speed and accuracy of public services. She believes the results of this WFH evaluation can determine how the public will trust the state and its apparatus.
In policies that affect the work patterns of state apparatus, said Puan, the public does not see where ASN work, but assess whether documents can be completed on time, administrative services remain responsive, to the potential slowdown in state decision-making.
Thus, the former Minister of PMK is convinced that public trust is not formed by changes in rules, but by how much benefit the public receives.
“Bureaucratic flexibility will have public legitimacy when changes in work patterns actually make the state appear more adaptive without losing accuracy in serving the public,” she stated.
Furthermore, Puan assessed that the ASN WFH policy could become part of bureaucratic modernisation if it truly drives a shift in orientation from physical presence to measurable performance. The success of this policy, she said, depends on each agency’s ability to maintain service quality without slowdowns.
In addition, Puan also highlighted the importance of implementation standards in the policy, one of which is through supervision to ensure ASN remain productive in carrying out tasks even when not working from the office.
“Do not let the good intentions of an adaptive bureaucracy instead cause side effects due to the flexibility of the applied work system without responsibility,” said Puan.
The work-from-home policy every Friday for ASN began on 1 April 2026. Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto stated that besides saving energy, this policy also promotes digital-based government governance.
Friday was chosen because activities on that day are considered not as dense as other working days. According to Airlangga, this policy will be evaluated after two months of implementation.
