DPR Speaker Calls for Commission Meeting with Ministers to Prevent Mudik Ticket Price Hikes
DPR Speaker Puan Maharani has requested that parliamentary commissions related to transport and commerce convene working meetings with relevant government ministries to preempt expected increases in transport ticket prices ahead of the 2026 Eid al-Fitr Mudik (homecoming) season.
Puan stressed that the public should not be unable to celebrate Eid comfortably due to price increases. “Since the DPR has just begun its sessions, we will request that all relevant commissions conduct working meetings jointly with the ministries,” she stated following a Plenary Session at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta on Thursday.
Beyond transport ticket prices, Puan outlined multiple concerns requiring proactive measures, including ensuring the safety of mudik travellers and preventing increases in essential goods prices. “Not only affordable fares, but also safety and comfort during the homecoming journey and return trip,” she said.
Puan’s statement follows an earlier intervention by Commission V Chairman Lasarus, who highlighted soaring airfare prices ahead of Eid at the parliamentary building on Wednesday 11 March. Lasarus noted that annual spikes in airfares preceding Idul Fitri represent a recurring problem, urging the current government to devise swift solutions to address this repetitive issue.
