DPR Speaker: Aida Budiman Nominated as Senior Deputy Governor of BI
House of Representatives (DPR) Speaker Puan Maharani has revealed that the government has officially submitted names of candidates to fill strategic positions at Bank Indonesia (BI). This follows a Presidential Letter (Surpres) sent by Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi several days ago. Speaking at the Parliament Complex in Jakarta on Wednesday, Puan detailed the names proposed for the positions of Governor, Senior Deputy Governor, and Deputy Governor of BI. Destry Damayanti has been re-nominated as a candidate for BI Governor, while the position of Senior Deputy Governor has a single candidate. Puan stated, “Yesterday, the Minister of State Secretary sent a letter from the President to the DPR leadership, delivered by the Minister of State Secretary to the DPR leadership.” She confirmed that the DPR will process the proposal in accordance with applicable mechanisms and legislation. The process will culminate in approval during a plenary session following a fit and proper test. The fit and proper test is scheduled for next week, adjusted to the opening of the new DPR session on 14 August. “Because the session opening is on 14 August, we will process these names after that,” Puan added. Previously, Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi confirmed on Monday the dispatch of the Surpres. The government has fully handed over the selection process to the DPR to ensure the appointment of central bank officials proceeds according to regulations, particularly to fill a vacant Deputy Governor seat.
