DPR: Sekolah Rakyat consistently forges competitive character in students
Banjarbaru (ANTARA) - Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Cucun Ahmad Syamsurijal stated that Sekolah Rakyat must consistently shape students’ characters to produce competitive generations, ensuring that students excel not only academically but also mentally and in discipline. He highlighted character building as an essential part of national education goals, which demand a balance between intellectual abilities and comprehensive personality formation from an early age. Cucun explained that the dormitory-based education system offers significant opportunities to build discipline, responsibility, and moral values through intensive daily interactions between students, teachers, and dormitory managers. He assessed that the closeness between students and teachers or dormitory guardians is a key factor in character formation, as the education process occurs not only in the classroom but also in everyday life. He emphasised the importance of instilling a sense of ownership towards state-provided facilities so that students can maintain and care for them as a form of long-term responsibility. Cucun reminded that character building must be carried out through real habits, not just theory, so that students become accustomed to applying values of discipline, responsibility, and ethics in daily activities. He added that the productive use of free time needs to be encouraged so that students remain in a continuous learning process and can optimally develop their potential. “Sekolah Rakyat is expected to produce generations that are not only academically superior but also possess integrity, strong personalities, and readiness to face global challenges,” said Cucun.
