DPR Secretary General No Longer a Suspect: The Case of the House Allowance for Council Members
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The suspect status imposed by the KPK on the Secretary General (Sekjen) of the DPR, Indra Iskandar, has now been revoked after a judge accepted part of the pre-trial petition filed by Indra. What case encompasses Indra?
Indra was designated as a suspect in the alleged corruption of the procurement of furnishings for the official residences of DPR members by the KPK.
On 20 May 2024, Indra Iskandar’s suspect status became public knowledge through the pre-trial petition he filed at the South Jakarta District Court on Thursday, 16 May 2024.
In this petition, Indra challenged the suspect status in the alleged corruption case concerning the Procurement of Facilities and Furnishings for the Official Residences of DPR RI Members.
In this case, the KPK named Indra Iskandar along with Hiphi Hidupati, Tanti Nugroho, Juanda Hasurungan Sidabutar, Kibun Roni, Andrias Catur Prasetya, Edwin Budiman, and associates as suspects.
All of them are alleged to have violated Article 2 Paragraph (1) or Article 3 of Law No. 31 of 1999 on the Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption in conjunction with Article 55 Paragraph (1) first of the Criminal Code.
Indra and the other perpetrators are suspected of inflating the budget for procuring official residence furnishings with a contract value of around Rp120 billion.
The KPK suspects that the actions of the perpetrators caused state losses of tens of billions of rupiah.
The KPK spokesperson at the time, Ali Fikri, stated that the official residence corruption involved the procurement of bedroom and living room furnishings, carried out in 2020.
“Among others, all furnishings for official residences such as bedroom fittings, living rooms, and so on,” said Ali when contacted on 26 February 2024.
The KPK had previously requested information from Indra in this case on 30 May 2023. At that time, the case was still in the investigation stage.
Previously, on 29 April 2024, the KPK searched the homes of the suspects other than Indra in Bintaro, Tebet, and Kemayoran, Jakarta.
The following day, investigators searched the Office of the DPR General Secretariat, including staff rooms and Indra Iskandar’s work room.
