DPR Secretary General Cuts Fuel Allowance for Echelon 1-3 Officials, Turns Off Lights at 6:00 PM WIB
Indonesia’s House of Representatives (DPR) has begun implementing energy-saving measures in response to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. The DPR will limit the use of lights at night and cut fuel quotas for civil servant (ASN) officials.
“Monday, 30 March, all officials will be complete. So the commitment will be emphasised then. But the General Bureau, which manages vehicles, has already conducted exercises related to fuel savings,” said DPR Secretary General Indra Iskandar to reporters on Friday (27/3/2026).
Indra stated that they are also reducing fuel quotas for ASN officials at the DPR. He mentioned that the fuel quota will be reduced by one day per week.
“Reducing their fuel quota. We are focusing on ASN. So currently, temporarily, every Sunday the fuel quota is reduced by one day. For those using operational vehicles for echelon 1, echelon 2, and some echelon 3,” said Indra.
He mentioned that the DPR is also limiting the use of lights at night to a maximum of 6:00 PM WIB if no longer in use. Indra said there will be personnel to monitor unused rooms every day.
“Certainly, for nighttime, there will be restrictions on lighting in every building. This will be shortened to 6:00 PM; unused rooms will be turned off. Every day, there will be a working group to check the rooms,” he said.
Indra stated that DPR ASN will follow the rules set by the government regarding the work-from-home (WFH) system. Currently, he added, the DPR is awaiting a circular from the government.
“That circular hasn’t been distributed to all government agencies yet. So, our design at the DPR, of course, from the ASN side, we will follow whatever circular the government issues; we will comply,” he said.
Indra emphasised that crucial DPR sessions will still be prioritised. The DPR has not yet taken specific steps regarding sessions amid the WFH policy.
“As long as there are no special matters that the DPR must handle, sessions will follow the government’s circular. But once again, if there are urgent matters that need to be decided, for example, crucial issues about disasters and so on, of course, we will proceed with DPR sessions that must decide something promptly,” he said.
Indra stated that the WFH rules being prepared by the government apply to ASN within the DPR scope. Meanwhile, for the political realm involving council members, it will first be discussed by the leadership.
“For ASN, yes (follow the government). For ASN, I’m not talking about the political side. In the DPR, there are two segments: one is the political realm of the council and the bureaucratic realm of the General Secretariat,” he said.
“For the council members, of course, they will usually hold a leadership meeting (Rapim) and then the consultation body (Bamus) first, and it will be decided,” he added.
