DPR Scrutinises Implementation of Eight Percent Commission Policy for Online Motorcycle Taxis

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR) Cucun Ahmad Syamsurijal has highlighted the implementation of the eight percent commission policy for online motorcycle taxi (ojol) passenger services, which came into effect on 1 July 2026. Starting from that date, ride-hailing companies are applying a new revenue-sharing scheme where partner drivers receive 92 percent of the base fare, with the remaining eight percent taken as commission by the application provider. “We have declared what the government’s commitment is, including President and the business owners of the applications, that as of 1 July the eight percent deduction for the application and 92 percent for the drivers has been implemented,” he said in a statement in Jakarta on Saturday. According to him, the new revenue-sharing scheme has the potential to benefit customers or consumers. Regarding the drivers’ income, which is reportedly yet to increase, he stated that his observations revealed that the application companies have lowered tariffs, meaning that customers or the public using the online motorcycle taxi services are benefiting from this new scheme. “The income has decreased because the entrepreneurs lowered the tariffs, so the drivers’ income dropped, but there are those who benefit, namely the customers or consumers who use the services of these online drivers,” he said. Cucun confirmed that the government, through the Ministry of Transportation, will regulate the technical aspects of the eight percent commission policy. The DPR’s Commission V will also be involved in overseeing the implementation of this policy. “The Ministry of Transportation will certainly create a more detailed technical regulation. The relevant commission, especially Commission V, will follow up to ensure there are no misunderstandings,” he said. It is known that the ride-hailing application companies implemented the new revenue-sharing scheme starting 1 July 2026, but drivers have stated that the increase in income has not been significantly felt on the first day of implementation. Meanwhile, a number of customers have said there is no significant change in the prices they pay following the implementation of the eight percent commission. One customer of the online motorcycle taxi service, Alya, stated that she has not experienced any price changes since the eight percent commission policy was applied. “From the time I left for work earlier, the fare hasn’t gone up, so the tariff is just normal,” said the female worker.
