Jakarta – Discussion of the draft presidential regulation (Perpres) on online motorcycle taxis (ojol) is just one step away from entering the finalisation stage with the government.

Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR) Sufmi Dasco Ahmad said the follow-up meeting will be held at the DPR on Tuesday, 18 August 2026, involving relevant ministries.

“There is still one more finalisation on how the government calculates transport that carries people and goods. It is nearly there. So, on 18 August there will be one more meeting at the DPR. We are inviting the relevant ministries to present the final version,” Dasco said at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta on Friday, 14 August 2026.

According to Dasco, the final meeting is needed to ensure that the provisions drafted by the government do not give rise to differing interpretations when implemented.

“As a supervisory body, we want to ensure that the product does not create further dynamics,” he said.

Before the final meeting with the government, the DPR will also seek input from online motorcycle taxi app providers. That input will serve as material in the discussion of the draft regulation.

Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi previously said the draft ojol Perpres is directed at regulating two-wheeled vehicle services, both for carrying passengers and goods.

“The focus of the regulation is on the transport of people and goods. Two-wheelers, yes,” Dudy said.

Dudy said the government is still refining the norms in the Perpres to prevent differing interpretations, including in provisions concerning goods and document delivery services.

SMEs Minister Maman Abdurrahman said classifying ojol drivers as micro, small and medium enterprises (UMKM) is expected to provide them with more flexible room to operate.

That status is also seen as opening opportunities for ojol drivers to access various policies and incentives provided by the government for UMKM actors.

However, Maman rejected the notion that ojol drivers will immediately be taxed once they fall under the UMKM category.

“I want to set the record straight if there are stories going around saying that ojol drivers will be taxed and all sorts of things. I am clarifying: no. That is 100 percent a hoax,” he said.
