Makkah – Member of the DPR RI Hajj Oversight Team (Timwas), Bambang Haryo Soekartono (BHS), praised healthcare services for Indonesian Hajj pilgrims in Saudi Arabia following his inspection of patients at the Indonesian Hajj Health Clinic (KKIH) on Saturday, 23 May 2026.

The head of Commission VII of the DPR RI noted medical treatment for pilgrims was proceeding well, with sufficient medication supplies to support healthcare services throughout the 2026 Hajj season. He stated four patients were receiving inpatient care and were being optimally treated by KKIH healthcare staff.

“After inspecting patients at the KKIH, four were receiving inpatient care and were being well-managed. However, around 60% of the medication stock was leftover from last year, with 40% being new supplies, enabling some patients to be treated and recover,” BHS said in a press release from Makkah, Saudi Arabia, on Sunday, 24 May 2026.

BHS also highlighted a significant drop in pilgrim deaths approaching the peak of the 2026 Hajj season compared to the previous year. “Currently, deaths are less than 50% of last year’s figure, proving that pilgrim healthcare and treatment are proceeding well,” he said.

According to BHS, disease prevention efforts at the flight group (kloter) level were largely effective, though some shortcomings require evaluation. He noted that early detection of pilgrims’ health conditions helped prevent illnesses from worsening.

“I commend the healthcare team for the significant decrease in pilgrim deaths this year compared to last. As of now, 64 deaths have been recorded before the Hajj peak, demonstrating effective care for pilgrims,” he added.
