DPR RI Commission VII Highlights Poor Road Access to Karawang Industrial Estates
Karawang (ANTARA) - The DPR RI Commission VII has highlighted the poor condition of road access leading to industrial estates during a visit by the Working Committee for the Draft Law on Industrial Estates to the Mitra Industrial Estate in Karawang Regency, West Java.
“We have frequently conducted working visits to industrial estates, not just in Karawang. In other regions, the situation is almost identical; the road access to industrial estates is poor,” stated the Vice Chairperson of Commission VII DPR RI, Evita Nursanty, during the visit to the Karawang industrial area on Monday.
She expressed that the Ministry of Industry should pay attention to the poor condition of the access roads leading to these industrial zones.
“There are many instances where the access roads leading to industrial estates are in bad condition,” she said.
According to her, the arrangement or repair of access roads to industrial estates is not within the authority of industrial estate managers. Under existing regulations, this is the responsibility of the government, involving both local and central authorities.
“Issues relating to industrial estates are the duty of the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) as the leading sector,” she added.
Meanwhile, the management of the Industrial Estate Association, represented by Soegiarto, emphasised that, according to regulations, industrial estate managers are only responsible for the condition of road infrastructure within the industrial estates themselves.
He noted that there are several industrial estates in the eastern part of Karawang. Previously, there were plans to open an arterial road access to the area that would not cross riverbanks; however, those plans have yet to be realised.
